A green day out from Marrakech: the 110-metre Ouzoud waterfalls, a walk to the pools, Barbary macaques and lunch with a view.
This Ouzoud waterfalls day trip takes you to the most famous falls in Morocco, about 110 metres high, in a green valley of olive trees. You walk down a path to the bottom, see wild Barbary macaques and can take a small boat close to the falls. It is a great escape from the heat of Marrakech.
The path has many steps, so wear good shoes. Your private driver takes care of the road. See all our day trips, or for a desert evening try our Agafay desert day trip.
Your private driver picks you up in Marrakech. You drive about 3 hours north-east across the Haouz plain and into the hills of the Middle Atlas, with a short coffee stop on the way.
You arrive at the top of the Ouzoud waterfalls. From the viewpoints you see the water fall in several steps into the green valley. You can hire a local guide at the entrance (optional), who knows the paths well.
You walk down a path with steps, past small shops and old water mills. On the way you will likely see Barbary macaques in the olive trees. Please do not feed them, and keep your bags closed.
At the bottom you can take a small, colourful boat close to the falls and feel the spray (optional, paid locally). On sunny days you may see a rainbow over the water.
Enjoy lunch in a simple terrace restaurant facing the waterfalls (lunch not included). Tajine and grilled meat are common. After lunch you walk back up by another path on the other side of the river.
Your driver waits for you at the top. You start the drive back to Marrakech, with a stop if you need a rest.
You arrive back at your riad or hotel in Marrakech around 18:30.
Marrakech → Ouzoud Waterfalls
It is a walk of about 1 to 2 hours with many steps, some of them uneven. Most people can do it slowly. Wear shoes with good grip.
Swimming is possible in some pools in summer, but it can be dangerous near the falls. Follow local advice.
Spring has the most water. In late summer the falls are smaller but still beautiful.
