Luxury Morocco Travel Guide: Riads, Desert Camps and Private Experiences
Published October 18, 2026 · 7 min read
In Morocco, luxury is not only a big hotel. It is a quiet riad behind a simple wooden door, a hammam after a long day in the souks, a tent with a real bathroom in the Sahara, and a table for two on the top of a dune. This guide explains luxury Morocco travel in a practical way: where to stay, what to do, and how a private trip works. Our team is based in Merzouga, and we organise these journeys from the desert to the imperial cities.
What luxury Morocco travel looks like
- Private everything: your own vehicle, your own driver and private guides. No group, no fixed schedule.
- Special places to sleep: boutique riads, palace-style hotels, kasbahs in the mountains and luxury desert camps.
- Experiences, not only visits: hammam and spa, cooking with a chef, dinner under the stars, sunrise over the dunes.
- Time: shorter driving days, late starts when you want them, and free afternoons.
Luxury riads in Marrakech and Fez
A riad is a traditional house built around an inner garden or courtyard. From the street, you see only a wall and a door. Inside, there is a fountain, orange trees, carved plaster, painted wood and zellige tiles. The best riads have only a few rooms, a rooftop terrace, a small pool and a spa.
In Marrakech, many luxury riads are inside the medina, a few minutes on foot from Jemaa el-Fna. Others are in the Palmeraie, with large gardens and more space. In Fez, the finest riads are often restored palaces with views over the old city. We choose the riad with you, according to your style and budget, from boutique houses to exclusive suites.
Luxury desert camp in Morocco
Near Merzouga, in the Erg Chebbi dunes, luxury camps offer large tents with a real bed, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, carpets and soft lights. You arrive by camel at sunset or by 4x4. In the evening, a private dinner can be set up on the dunes, with lanterns and drums. The sky is very dark, so the stars are wonderful.
Near Marrakech, the Agafay stone desert also has elegant camps with pools and views of the Atlas. It is closer, but it has no high sand dunes. Read our honest comparison of the Agafay desert and the Sahara before you choose, and our Merzouga desert guide for more about the dunes.
Exclusive experiences
Hammam and spa
The hammam is a Moroccan tradition: steam, black soap, a body scrub and a massage with argan oil. After a day in the medina, it is the best way to relax.
Cooking class with a chef
Visit a market with a chef, choose spices and vegetables, then cook a tagine and Moroccan salads. You eat what you prepare, and you take the recipes home.
Private guides in the medinas
A licensed guide shows you hidden palaces, small workshops and quiet squares, at your rhythm. In Fez, artisan workshops for copper, leather, wood and ceramics are a highlight.
Hot-air balloon at sunrise
Near Marrakech, you can fly over the plains and villages at sunrise, with the Atlas Mountains in the distance. This is an optional extra on our tours.
Comfort on the road
Distances in Morocco can be long, so comfort in the vehicle is important. On our luxury tours you travel in a private air-conditioned 4x4 or minivan with a professional driver who speaks English. We plan short stages, stops at the best viewpoints and clean places for coffee and lunch. If you prefer, we can add a night on the way to make the drive easier.
Choose your private luxury tour in Morocco
All our luxury journeys are private and can start any day:
- Short stay near Marrakech: the luxury Marrakech, Agafay and Atlas tour (5 days) combines a riad, a full day with a private guide, hammam, a luxury camp in Agafay and a night in the High Atlas.
- The real Sahara in 4 days: the private luxury desert tour from Marrakech to Fez includes a luxury kasbah in the Dades Gorges and two nights in a luxury camp in Merzouga, with a private dinner on the dunes.
- One week: the luxury imperial cities and Sahara tour (7 days) starts in Casablanca and visits Rabat, Fez, Merzouga and Marrakech.
- The complete journey: the 10-day luxury Morocco tour adds a cooking class, a hammam and private guides in both Marrakech and Fez.
Dinner is included in the desert camp and in the Dades kasbah. In the cities, breakfast is included and you are free to choose your restaurants. When the tour has two or more nights in Marrakech or Fez, a full-day private guide is included there; with one night, the guide is optional.
When to go
Spring and autumn are ideal for a luxury trip that includes the desert. Winter is beautiful and calm, with fires in the camps and snow on the Atlas. Summer is very hot inland, so we suggest the coast or the mountains. Check our guide to the best season by month before you choose your dates.
How the price works
Every luxury trip is tailor-made. The price depends on the accommodation you choose, from boutique riads to exclusive suites, on the season and on the experiences you add. Tell us your dates and wishes, and we send you a personal quote. You can start from one of our tours or build a fully tailor-made journey.
